Hreflang checker for Shopify
Enter a page from your store. We read its hreflang tags, open the pages they point to, and check them against Google's rules. Free, and nothing to install.
Checks one page and up to 12 of the pages its tags point to. Pages blocked by your robots.txt are left alone.
What it checks
- That the tags are in the page's
<head>, use full URLs and valid language and region codes. - That the page lists itself, and that every page it lists links back.
- That alternates don't redirect, return errors or say
noindex. - That the canonical points at the page itself, there is one x-default, and only one source prints tags.
Each rule says whether it comes from Google's hreflang guidelines or is common best practice. The checker reads the same public pages a search engine does; it can't see behind a storefront password.
Fixing what it finds
Most problems on Shopify stores come from tags printed by more than one source (Shopify's automatic tags, a theme snippet, a translation app), or from alternates that don't match how each market's pages are really addressed. Hreflang Manager replaces them with one consistent set built from your markets, languages and translated URLs, and its audit checks a sample of your whole store and names the fix for each problem. It has a free plan.
